Fashion shows seldom inspire me lately, aside from Margiela’s Spring 2024 Couture Collection designed by Galliano and Dilara Findikoglu’s Fall RTW:
Last night, however, while watching a video of guests arriving at the Schiaparelli Haute Couture FW24 show in Paris, two outfits caught my eye from their Fall RTW24 collection, featuring inventive chain details. These dresses (and the cape) would sit seamlessly amidst the dazzling costumes at the high-class bondage party in Radley Metzger’s film Camille 2000, set in 1960s Rome.
I also appreciate Jean Paul Gaultier’s use of black lace, as well as Comme’s and Chanel’s courtly aesthetics below, though they’re the only looks that stood out to me. Quite a disappointing moment for fashion right now.
On first seeing this Schiaparelli Couture 2024 dress/robe, I was reminded of Isabella Rossellini in David Lynch’s Blue Velvet (1983), but then I envisioned Violet Beauregarde wearing the look, so now it’s ruined for me and I can’t stop cackling:
Practically, for summer, lately I find everyday outfit ideas in nineties Yohji collections and current men’s collections, since I’m playing around with oversized/baggier fits, loathing tight/clingy clothes in this humidity. The Comme Spring 2025 Menswear layering (left) is everything, as is this Yohji suit from Spring 1995.
Here are two summer moments of my own, though I always forget to take decent photos. (I am obsessed with red and brown together lately.)
What’s on your outfit moodboard this season?
